"Conversations with Muslims"

Who are our Muslim neighbors?  What do they believe and how do they practice their faith?  How does extremism worldwide affect them?

Over the past four years, the Muslim Coalition of CT (MCCT) has been involved in a special collaborative effort with the Connecticut Council for Interreligious Understanding (CCIU) and Hartford Seminary to invite people to learn more about Islam and Muslims in our communities. They have a series of forums called “Honest Conversations with Muslim Neighbors.” Each forum includes a panel of 2-4 of our Muslim neighbors and is led by a non- Muslim moderator.  KCC will be hosting this forum on October 22 at 7pm in our Parish Hall.  We firmly believe that sharing information in an open question and answer forum can increase understanding, open lines of communication, and reduce fears that are based on lack of knowledge.  Join us for this important event.

Dr. James Abshire Program

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 7:00 PM

Dr. James Abshire, the author of the book “LIVE, LOVE AND LET GO” will present a program at KCC. We will meet in the Sanctuary with light refreshments to follow in the Parish Hall. Dr. Abshire began writing “Live, Love and Let Go: A Doctor’s Insightful Approach to Living and Dying” after years of seeing patients encounter life’s stressers and in particular death. He felt the need to give people an important positive, tactical approach to death that could not be accomplished in an office visit. In 2010, Dr. Abshire gained new insight for his book when he was given his own terminal diagnosis of lymphoma. His perspective gives valuable insight to overcoming the physical and mental struggles that come from life’s ultimate challenge.

Transition Team Potluck

If you had to answer the question “Who are you as a congregation?” in one or two sentences, could you do it? Chances are you’d find it hard. In discussion with one another, the Transition Team realized that there is no clearly articulated and widely agreed upon statement of identity that will inform the eventual Search Committee’s work. And so they are inviting all members and friends of KCC to a potluck dinner on Sunday September 22.
