Christian Faith Formation

Sunday School

School children, age 3 through 8th grade, spend the second half of the worship hour (i.e., 10:30am-11:15 am) learning the stories of our faith. We have a highly dedicated team of teachers, led by our Christian Faith Formation Director, Gwen McCann.
The mission of our Sunday School is to prepare Children and Youth for SUCCESS:

  • Seek the word of God in the living of their lives.
  • Unite
  • Church
  • Community and world
  • Empower children and youth to:
  • Serve God and
  • Show love to all God’s people and creation

SUCCESS is achieved through interactive Bible study, outreach mission projects and intergenerational activities.

Confirmation Preparation Class

High school students meet on alternate Sunday from 6:30 to 8 pm for twenty weeks. Here they prepare to claim the church's faith and covenant as their own. Topics covered include the nature of God; Worship; The Bible; Prayer; Christian history, Our Denominational Family; How our Congregation works; Our Relationship with other Denominations and Religions, and moving from "knowing about" God to "knowing" God. A weekend retreat in the winter, service projects, and a mentor relationship with someone in the congregation round out the program.

Adult Classes

Our pastor and Christian Faith Formation director each lead 2-3 topical classes for adults during the year. Recent topics have included comparative religions, the "basics" of Christianity, the message of Revelation, and dealing with grief. Most classes are offered on a weekday and a weeknight.

Bible Study

Each week our pastor leads a one hour Bible study session for all members of church who wish to attend. The discussion is held in the church parlor each Wednesday from 11am to 12:00pm. The Bible passages for the coming week service are read and discussed.

Crib Room

Nursery care for infants and toddlers is available each Sunday from 9:50am-11:15am in the Crib Room, located at 185 Sheldon St. This room is staffed by screened and experienced volunteers who provide loving care while parents/guardians attend Sunday Worship.

Vacation Bible School

Each summer the KCC community offers Vacation Bible School (VBS) for children age 4 through 5th grade. Children learn more about their faith in a hands-on, interactive camp environment that focuses on exploring a deeper relationship with God. Participants also learn to give thanks to God for all God does. Don’t miss this opportunity, registration for VBS 2016 will be available in April 2016.

Intergenerational Activities

Special programs designed for folks of all ages are a specialty at Kensington Congregational Church. Regular events, like our Advent workshop, Mardi Gras pancake breakfast, White Gifts Christmas pageant and Christmas caroling, are supplemented by dinners and much more.

Kensington Nursery School

Since 1972, we've proudly sponsored the area's premier family centered nursery school, Kensington Nursery School (KNS). KNS in a non-profit, state licensed, family centered nursery school that focuses on the whole child to develop intellectual, social/emotional, and physical growth. As a family centered school, KNS welcomes and relies on parent involvement in the classroom and school. Our talented and dedicated staff love their jobs and foster learning by tapping into a child’s natural inquisitive nature. Class size is limited to 20 students. Each teacher is supported by an assistant teacher, teacher’s aide and parent volunteer. This provides excellent child/ adult ratio to allow greater individual attention and interaction with the children. Classes meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00-1:55pm or Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00-12:30pm. Registration takes place mid-January each year.
